Gossip Girl 'Gaslit' Episode and Fashion Recap

"What do you say we find that bitch and get us a little Frontier justice?"

So long Jenny Humphrey, good riddance to bad rubb--well, you know the rest, and in the case of Little J it really fits. I mean, I know I should be happy that Jenny 'fessed all to Blair, but really the whole deal just makes me hate her more. I can't stand either Juliet or Vanessa but why sell them out? Hopefully we've seen the last of Taylor Momsen's goth moping for a looong while. And, while I don't dare hope for too much, it looks like Vanessa is also headed out of town. I think it's time Vanessa realizes that these UES peeps are just not for her. Why she still chases after Dan when he pretty much treats her like goo you'd find under your shoe is beyond me. She should have seriously decked him at the market.

I thought this episode was pretty great overall. Sure we were treated to our annual Serena trip to the hospital, but I have to say Juliet's plan was pretty ingenious even if Jenny did ultimately torpedo it as only a Humphrey can. What I found hard to swallow is how outraged Ben acted. Like, ruining all of Serena's relationships, her reputation and her academic future are all okay, but what Juliet did was just stepping over the line. Really?! I guess Ben's just another in a long line of men who never really got over Serena. Sorry Juliet. Nate, however, looks like he may finally be cured of his Serena-induced mania. Thank goodness for small mercies. Can't say I care for the storyline with his dad, though.

"Just because we can't be friends doesn't mean we aren't."
~Blair's Note to Chuck

Chuck and Blair break my heart. Can they just stop this pretending and be together? No? Well, I guess we need to settle for pie instead. And as much as I want to poke Dan's eyes out with a stick I am totally psyched for a Juliet takedown. Maybe teaming up with Blair will make Dan slightly bearable, like in some of his cute scenes with Nate (that one where they were discussing Nate's parents' divorce, however, was not one of those scenes.) Blair is totally legit awesome. Loves. Can't wait for the next one!

Where to get THE perfect school bag?

Happy Monday, my dear friends! :D

It's kinda sad that the Thanksgiving weekend is over, but at the same time, I am excited because Christmas is almost here! Yay! :)

I was preparing my school stuff last night, when I suddenly realized that I need, okay fine, more like want a new school bag. The one I'm using right now is a silver hobo bag. It's big enough to fit my books and notebooks and other stuff, but the problem is it's a little too big. Don't you hate how your things don't stay put because there's just too much space inside your bag? I do. I love my bag, but right now, I just need something a little smaller.

So, I was looking through CSN's sites to find some cute leather messenger bags or perhaps a satchel. I found this:

David King Small Messenger Briefcase, $80.99

It is also available in Black and Dark Brown.

I also checked out Anthropologie, and I saw this:

Transcontinental Satchel, $348

Wishful thinking... it's just too pricey for a school bag. That's like the price of two or three text books. *sigh*

So, then I went to everyone's favorite, Forever21's site to see what they have.

Leatherette Braided Handle Handbag, $32.80

Double-Zipper Oversized Shoulder Bag, $44.80

Soft Distressed Leatherette Tote Bag, $24.80

Hmmm, I don't know which one to pick. I guess I will stick to using my silver hobo bag for now, until I find the perfect school bag. Do you have any suggestions as to where I should look for a good school bag?

Have a great week, everyone! :D

17 Steps & A New Artist Discovery

One of my great pleasures in life is trying out new restaurants while M has a habit of wanting to go back to those tried and true places. I guess it's good for me he's the loyal sort. This Saturday I was happy to get the chance to check out a new one. 17 Steps is a rustic and charming Mediterranean restaurant tucked underground (hence the 17 steps) in Bloor West. Not only are the owners and everyone who works there charming, gracious and inviting but the food is pretty great, too.

To start we had flatbread with a selection of dips and spankopita, and for my main I had the yummy bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin with some to-die-for truffle frites. We usually skip dessert, but we went in for the Greek nut cake (served warm) and weren't disappointed. I found that, price wise, it's also a really great value. You can read some more reviews here.

During dinner I found myself admiring some of the colourful artwork on the walls only to find out they were the work of Cynthia van Leeuwen, who I also had the pleasure of meeting that night.

Cynthia was very friendly and lovely, someone with a true passion for her art. What did you do this weekend?

Asin Denies the rumours!

Ready may be months away from release but is definitely one of the most awaited movies of 2011. After all it brings a hit combination of Salman Khan and Anees Bazmi together years after No Entry. Also, it would be the third Bollywood outing for Asin who waited to sign a new movie after Ghajini and London Dreams.

However, the lady in question found herself in the news for all the wrong reasons with a piece of rumour floating around the world of web. As per that, she shares a steamy scene with Salman Khan in the movie and has finally let go off her imagination. The fact though is that this is far away from being true.

Says a highly placed source associated with Ready, “No, Asin has not shot for any such scene in Ready. The movie does not need that. This is someone’s imagination really running wild. Asin knew that such a news piece was floating around for last few days but she decided to stay low”.

Why not raise an early alarm?

Continues the source, “You can’t stop people from speculating. Some people write things that do not carry any semblance of truth. Asin has been in the industry for long and understands that such news pieces do float around. She decided to let it go so that it could die a silent death in due course of time. However, when certain reputed publications and glossles also fell for the so-called piece of information, she thought it was best to clarify”.

One would have expected Asin to be all fired up when confronted with the query to unveil the truth. However, surprisingly one heard a giggle from her and though it did not convey a ‘care-a-damn’ gesture, Asin was stern and sure in her denial.

Asin comes clean here, “I am rather amused to hear this because I have not shot any steamy scene with Salman in Ready”.

With the lady at the hot seat going on the records about her act in the film, there is of course no room for any more speculation or rumour.

Asin smiles, “To think of it, the speculation by itself stands on a filmsy ground. Ready is a family entertainer. Now tell me, where would such a scene feature in it in any case? It’s really weird that someone actually thought of bringing out such news for a movie like this where there is no scope for such a sequence in any case”.

Now that should set the records straight.

Wedding: Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie

Hi, everyone!

How are you coping after Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

I hope you're all doing well. We'll go back to our usual routine of school and work, but no worries, Christmas is almost here. :D

A few weeks back, I made a post on celebrity engagement rings, and some of you have told me that you'd like to see a post on celebrity weddings. I am happy to finally find some time to make one. :)

For today's wedding post, let's take a look at Hilary Duff's wedding to hockey player Mike Comrie.

I love her updo! I'm not sure if it would look good on me, but it looks great on Hilary.

Can you see her huge 1 million dollar engagement ring?

Her bouquet was made up of blush dahlias, tied with a linen ribbon.

Look how beautiful the train is on her mermaid-style Vera Wang wedding dress!

Hilary with her sister and maid-of-honor, Haylie Duff.

I would love to be her bridesmaid! They all wore Vera Wang, and Hilary gave them diamond bangles as thank-you gifts.

Mike Comrie wore Tom Ford, and his groomsmen wore Gucci.

They wed at a private estate in Santa Barbara, California in front of about 100 guests.

They danced their first dance to Stand by Me.

Some more details:

They wanted a rustic, organic, and classic feel.

The cake:

Hilary chose to not frost her wedding cake because she wanted it to have a "vintage home-made look" to go with the "warm and fuzzy feeling of the wedding".

Personally, I think I want frosting, but she got the feel she was going for, so it's all good. And I love the flowers - on the cake and all over the table. :D

I think it was a beautiful wedding. What do you think?

I wish everyone a relaxing Saturday night and a peaceful Sunday! :)

My recent purchase: Bath&Body Works (and an Award!)

Happy Friday, everyone! Or should I say Happy Black Friday?! :D

Are you finished with your Black Friday shopping?

For today, I just want to share with you what I bought from Bath&Body Works.

Photobucket

I love Bath&Body Works because they have tons of scents to choose from. They also have an assortment of items - from fragrance mists, cologne, eau de toilette, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, body butter, to home items such as candles and plug-in home fragrance sets. They also have amazing deals, especially today because it's Black Friday. :)

One of my all-time favorite fragrances from them is White Citrus.

Photobucket

Lavishly spritz our refreshing Fragrance Mist all over your body to leave skin lightly scented with our exclusive White Citrus, a fresh, modern interpretation of classic citrus.

Fragrance Top Notes: Lemon Zest, Sparkling Grapefruit NP, Juicy Tangerine
Fragrance Mid Notes: Mandarin NP, Ginger Flower, Waterlily, Apricot Nectar, Lily of the Valley, Freesia
Fragrance Base Notes: Clean Woods, Sheer Musk (Captive)

They have a 3 for $10 deal on their travel-size items.

I got the fragrance mist and 2 of the body lotion.

It's perfect to bring to school - fits in my bag, doesn't take too much space. I really love this because sometimes I'm in a hurry and I forget to spray some cologne/perfume - but since I have this in my school bag, I don't need to worry. The lotion comes in handy, especially now that we have to constantly moisturize.

This is also good for all you travelers out there because this 3oz. bottle is TSA compliant for carry-on luggage. :D

What's your favorite Bath&Body Works fragrance?

Textstyles & Corduroy Magazine's Pop Up Closet and The One of a Kind Show

Happy Friday everyone! I hope my American friends enjoyed their Thanksgiving and everyone survives Black Friday shopping. Is it me or are there a ton more sales this side of the border this year? (More on a sale I jumped at below). This week I was happy to attend the preview of two great events, the first being the Holiday Pop Up Closet curated by the lovely Stefania of Textstyles (check out her blog and photographs--just fab) and Tim Chan of Corduroy, with proceeds being donated to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Being held at Chasse Gardé (who will also be hosting a Magwood pop up soon) from November 26 to 28, this pop up is a great opportunity to snag some super Christmas gifts. I was actually sad that I had finished all my shopping already, although I did grab one thing for myself! The items are presented on vintage furniture for a kind of walk-in closet feel, and are all marked with handwritten tabs giving background on the designers and brands and why they were chosen.

The shop has items for both men and women that range from Field Notes retro notebooks, Manimal Moccasins and great toques to supple leather wallets and chunky scarves made of mohair and alpaca. I was charmed by the Maude & Colette pretzel necklaces by Jacqueline Lane, the sweet smelling body products from Love Fresh Body Goodies, and the leather rucksack from Vancouver's Palmer & Sons. Want to rock a turban this holiday season? There were some velvet ones by Leilanni Todd. Love Emerson Made? The shop has multiple sets of clutches and blossoms that would make perfect gifts. If you're in the area you should really go. I mean, great products and a great cause--how can you go wrong?

I also attended a preview for the One of a Kind Christmas Show being held at Exhibition Place from November 25 to December 5. It was my first time attending the show, although I knew it would be right up my alley. What's better than over 800 artisans selling their creative, unique and beautiful wares in one place? There was everything from One of a Kind Fashion and Flavors to Green products and a whole selection of Rising Stars and first-time exhibitors. Canadian House & Home had a booth and there was also a Love competition with different exhibitors showcasing products inspired by love (my fave was the bright red "Love" buzzer/doorbell by Buzzz). The show also features fashion shows and demos on everything from woodworking to tapestry making.

First off we were treated to a truly delicious breakfast cooked by the Culinary Management students of George Brown College's Chef School. As a girl who usually eats breakfast for dinner and not much in the morning this was a treat. There were both hot and cold selections (poached pears, fresh fruit salad, crispy granola) and I opted to have a small sample of all three hot offerings a Scottish Egg, Cornflake Crusted French Toast with berries and syrup and Wild Mushroom, Spinach and Goat Cheese Tarts. All were new experiences for me and can I just say it was freakin' delicious.

After downing breakfast and meeting some new friends I headed off to tackle the maze of booths. It was overwhelming at first, but I soon found myself absorbed with discovering all this new (to me) talent. I'm planning one showcasing some of my faves in separate posts--there are just too many to fit into one--but suffice it to say that there was a ton of stuff I just loved. And some gorgeous booths, too, like this one from Flakes Paperie.

If you're looking for unique Christmas gifts this is certainly the place to hit. You'll find everything from dinnerware and jewellery to original paintings and clothing. I have to say that the pieces that seemed to speak to me the most were those made out of wood. Observe:

A tray made out of a recycled wine barrel from Wine Planks

Wood and Slate Blackboard by Kino Guérin

Annnd after hitting the show I scored a pair of great TopShop flats.

All TopShop shoes at Jonathan + Olivia (have you been? great
shop!) were 40% off, definitely not something I could pass up.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and
don't forget to enter the Orient Watch Giveaway!
