American Idol's charity event Idols Give Back was taped Sunday night at the Kodak Theatre - and plenty of stars were on hand to contribute.
The show, which is scheduled to air on Wednesday evening, will kick off with Rihanna performing her hit "Don't Stop the Music." Her background dancers were performers from "So You Think You Can Dance."
Numerous singers performed, including Fergie, who sang "Barracuda" with Heart.
Other included Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg and Charlie Wilson, Shelia E., Gloria Estefan, John Legend, Annie Lennox and Carrie Underwood.
"It's not about self-promoting," Underwood said backstage about her decision not to sing one of her hit songs. "It's not about singing your latest single. It's not about trying to be the most-downloaded whatever on iTunes. It's all about getting people to call in and do something.
Other celebrities making appearances were Bill Crystal, Jimmy Kimmel, Peyton and Eli Manning, Brad Pitt, Sarah Silverman, Robin Williams and Reese Witherspoon.
"Tonight isn't just about raising money," Pitt said. "Sometimes, to help people, we've got to travel outside of our comfort zone to really understand another situation."
David and Victoria Beckham, Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Whoopi Goldberg and Kiefer Sutherland all asked viewers to donate in pre-recorded messages, as did presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama.
Ryan Seacrest served as master of ceremonies of the event, which will contribute money to the Global Fund, Malaria No More, Children's Health Fund, Save the Children, Children's Defense Fund and Make It Right, Brad Pitt's campaign to help New Orleans recover from Hurricane Katrina.
