Anyway, this movie is adorable. So its not exactly the most heart warming, romantic movie of all time, but I enjoyed the performances and I like what it has to say about love and relationships.
The movie's tag line -- "This is not a love story. This is a story above love." -- makes it clear that this isn't your usual Sandra Bullock romantic comedy.
Spoilers ahead (after the trailer)…
At the beginning of the film the narrator intones: "This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Tom Hansen, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met the one. The girl, Summer Finn, did not share this belief. You should know up front this is not a love story."
I thought the movie, which jumps back and forth in time telling the story of Tom and Summer, was cute and quirky and sweet. It’s a good reminder that sometimes we put unfair expectations on the ones we love and placing anyone on a pedestal is a precarious business. Tom’s a romantic, Summer’s not, but she tells him up front she’s not looking for love. Tom agrees to this arrangement but once their relationship moves away from the purely platonic he’s convinced that Summer loves him and she just…doesn’t. Heartbreak ensues.
Summer and Tom don’t end up together. Shortly after breaking up with Tom, she marries someone else. The twist is that Tom’s so heartbroken he almost becomes a cynic, while his romanticism rubs off on Summer. Summer now believes in love and fate, albeit with someone other than Tom.

I would highly recommend (500) Days of Summer, a refreshing movie about love.
