- there are 7 diamond shapes: round, marquis, heart, emerald, pear, square, and oval; round being the most popular
- the 4 Cs to consider to determine a diamond's value are:
Cut-- a well-cut diamond reflects light and sparkle, showing the greatest brilliance
Carat-- generally, the larger the diamond, the rarer it is, therefore the more costly. however, it is important to remember that the other 3 Cs will weigh in heavily, making a difference in value
Clarity-- those with the least flaws are graded VVS1 or VVS2. always make sure to consult your local jeweler.
Color-- absolutely colorless stones are graded D. colored stones are very rare, therefore very valuable
*info from my textbook. these are just general info, please still see your local jeweler. :)*
the most popular stone is, of course, colorless diamond. pink and yellow diamonds have also become very popular (remember J.Lo's pink engagement ring?). but other stones, such as emeralds, sapphires, and rubies also make very beautiful rings. and truthfully, it's the happiness that comes with being engaged that matters more than the ring's value right? :)
here are photos of some celebrities wearing their engagement ring:
Emily Blunt, engaged to John Krasinski
Khloe Kardashian, now married to Lamar Odom
Rachel Bilson, engaged to Hayden Christensen
Carrie Underwood, engaged to Mike Fisher
