Fawcett-O'Neal son pleads guilty to drug charges

Redmond O'Neal, 23, son of Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett (and Tatum O'Neal's half-brother), pled guilty to two counts of felony drug possesssion and one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence yesterday, Jane Robison of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

A second DUI charge was tossed, per O'Neal's plea deal agreement that allowed him to avoid serving time behind bars.

Malibu Superior Court justice Lawrence J. Mira sentenced O'Neal to three years of probation and ordered him into drug rehabilitation until a July 9 hearing.

Afterwards, a court will determine if he can enter the state's drug-diversion program for the two felony counts. He was also ordered to pay $1,688 in restitution and fines for the DUI.

The charges stem from a Jan. 26 arrest when O'Neal was pulled over for speeding on the Pacific Coast Highway and heroin and crystal meth were found in his possession.

According to People, O'Neal has a history of drug abuse and went to rehab in 2004 to address his heroin addiction.

Tatum O'Neal blames drug bust on dog's death

When Oscar-winning former child star Tatum O'Neal was arrested in New York Sunday after a narcotic team spotted her buying crack and cocaine, she said she was "doing research" for an upcoming role as a junkie.

But now the actress, who wrote a 2004 memoir "A Paper Life" about her recovery from heroin addiction, says her dog's death "set her off."

"There's no excuse for what I did. (But) I lost my Scottish terrier, Lena. That seemed to set me off," O'Neal told The New York Post. "She got old. She got cancer. She was the fabric of our family. We had to let her go to heaven. My daughter and I had to put her down. It was too horrible for words.

"I couldn't get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing everything I could do. I have the disease of alcoholism. It's lifelong. I treat it every day by going to my 12-step program."

O'Neal credits the police who arrested her for dissuading her to go back down the path of alcoholism and addiction.

She told The Post: "I'm still sober! Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me! I was saved by the bell, by the guys in the Seventh Precinct."

The actress was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and is due to return to court July 28.

Tatum O'Neal Busted for Drugs

Oscar-winning child star Tatum O'Neal was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

According to The New York Daily News the actress, 44, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. a few blocks from her Lower East Side apartment charged with buying crack cocaine.

After searching O'Neal the police found bag of crack, a bag of cocaine and an unused crack pipe. Police said that she claimed she was "doing research for a part" as a junkie.

"I've been clean for a long time," the Daily News quoted her telling police. "Today was the first time I was relapsing, but you guys saved me. Can you let me go?"

According to her memoir "A Paper Life," her 1995 drug addiction was a result of losing custody of her children. In 1996 she went into rehab.

At 10, O'Neal became the youngest person to win a competitive Oscar for her supporting role in "Paper Moon" along side her father Ryan O'Neal. She later starred in "Bad News Bears" and currently plays Dennis Leary's sister on "Rescue Me."

In 1986 she married tennis player John McEnroe, with whom she has three children. The couple divorced in 1992, with McEnroe gaining custody over their three children.
