pcm's 'POP-IN' With: Jerad Finck

Independent Washington-based pop-rocker Jerad Finck recently chatted with our writer Kristyn Clarke about his music career, a new album and much more! Check out his music at his MySpace page to learn more about this new artist we're promoting!

Now, read on and get a feel for what Jerad Finck is all about:

Q: We see that you're ready to head back into the studio and start recording a follow-up to your debut album, what should fans be expecting this time around?

A: "I've done a lot more writing. I'm trying to get better as an artist."

Q: You just finished up a 40 city tour, what was that experience like?

A: "The most grueling experience of my life. A lot of fun! I saw about 38-39 states, saw a lot of the country. It was crazy and a great time. We'd play a show then drive 7 or 8 hours and do it all again. We broke down at the Hoover Dam one night and was stuck there for hours one night! We'll do the next tour in late spring/early summer."

Q: What is the writing process like for you? What inspires you?

A: "It can be any kind of moment. I try to capture just little snapshots of life. Reading a book, watch someone kissing their girlfriend, you know?"

Q: Where do you see the future of music heading and where do you see yourself in that picture?

A: "The pool of musicians has gotten so huge with things like MySpace, anyone can be a musician. People just aren't really buying CD's anymore either, it seems like the death of the album. I hope not. I hope that people keep writing great records. I just try to create something that will be around for a long time. "

Q: How would you describe your music to a first-time listenener?

A: "I definitely am more pop-rock, I think. I like energy in my music. I like bands like The Beatles, Sister Hazel and Green Day that are more upbeat."

BAND ID: The next step in the evolution of music distribution for the independent artist..

The UK may just have something here! We know lots of bands and upcoming musicians/artists/etc look at our blog so we wanted to share this cool idea with you!

Today sees the launch of band-id.co.uk, a new way for musicians to distribute and sell their music online. The BAND-ID music download card is a collectable, full colour plastic card printed with the artist’s specific artwork and details such as web address or email address. At the back of the card is a scratch panel, which conceals a unique PIN code. The artists’ fans use this code to download their digital music from the secure website.

The BAND-ID card is a physical medium to drive digital music sales. It gives the artist the opportunity to sell their music to fans who might not want to purchase a CD, or a digital version for artists who normally release on vinyl. It helps them to take advantage of the impulse buy at their gigs and encourages the fan to download their music without having to search amongst other artists at other music download services. When the fan redeems their code on the website, they also supply their email address which allows the artist to contact them about future releases. BAND-ID can be used for promotion at gigs or through street teams to generate buzz for pre-releases or sold with other merchandise. For more information check out, http://www.band-id.co.uk/!

PCM Buzz: New Music

PCM loves buzzworthy new music. Check out The Lights! The Lights have just recorded their new single, Low Hundreds / Formerly Yours, at The Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton. The single, set for release in May, is produced by renowned producer Gavin Monaghan, who has recently recorded with Travis, Editors & Kings of Leon.

The Lights are a lovely burst of energy, consisting of five bright-eyed individuals with the heart and determination to be heard all over. Their sound is like nobody else, unique, eclectic and intimately epic with a touch of old enough to know better! With a highly promising array of unique sounds, ranging from soft and passionate to loud staggering moments, they've perfectly blended each other's influences and abilities to create one magnetic and appealing force.

The live Lights experience is electric and frequently spine-tingling, rather than a bunch of college kids recycling one catchy hook, they actually sound like a real working class band with the fire, heart and poise that playing and writing together for years has afforded them. FOR MORE INFO:

New Artist Jamie Jo

Miami native Jamie Jo is about to set the dance clubs on fire. Her debut single, “U Turn Me On” featuring dance pioneer Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees’ is set for release September 23rd.

The upbeat “U Turn Me On” is simply about dancing with an amazing partner, “There’s something special about electro, the sound,” Jamie Jo shares. “I think that it really touches your senses. And I want to portray and bring people a sultry, sexy feeling through my music.”

Jamie Jo’s upcoming full-length album, In Violet, entails catchy modern electro like Kylie Minogue and Goldfrapp, with a blistering edge. It’s an album and sound inspired by globetrotting nights spent in the world’s most trendsetting music clubs. “I like to tell stories, but small stories,” she says. “Each song is about moments. So I usually look at things moment to moment.”

In Violet features 13 songs and while electro is the dominant genre, it’s a sonically diverse assortment. “One thing I love about In Violet is its songs don’t all sound the same,” Jamie Jo explains. “You stay really interested all the way through. Some are electro-pop and dance-oriented, one has an island-y flavor. A really beautiful combination and a lot of wonderful imagery.”

Shire Releases New Controversial Single

Katy Perry may have "Kissed a Girl," but Shiré "Used to LovHer." After debuting in early July, "Used to LovHer" is proving to be the next controversial anthem of the summer with its spicy lyrics and sultry vocals provoking buzz across the nation and throughout the Internet community.

The video for the hit single, shot on location in Los Angeles, proves to be an even steamier visual to an already candid story line. While "Used to LovHer" may seem to make reference to Shiré's old girl group LovHer - put together by Sisqó of Dru Hill - the song and video are pieced together in such a way as to have tongues wagging and the public speculating.

Shiré is the first sign to Grammy nominated production duo MIDI Mafia's new label Family Ties Entertainment and Hot City Music Group, which is distributed by Steve Rifkind's SRC Records/Universal Motown. Shiré's amazing vocal range combines the heartache of Mary J. Blige with her uniquely feisty spirit. Be on the look out for her debut album "Pickin' Up the Pieces" to be released later this year. Her mix tape "Baltimore's Daughter" is available now as a free download.
