Brit's dad keeps custody

In another hearing this morning, a court commissioner decided to extend Jamie Spears' temporary conservatorship over daughter Britney until February 14.

James Spears and Britney's attorney, Andrew Wallet, were first granted control of the singer's personal and financial affairs on Friday.

According to Adam Streisand, who tried to enter the case as Britney Spears' lawyer, the star is unhappy with the decision.

"She has expressed to me very strongly that her father not be the conservator," Streisand said. "There has been an estrangement for quite some time. With him as conservator, that is causing her more agitation and more distress."

Jamie Spears' lawyer, Vivian Thoreen, disagreed with Streisand's arguments. "He's not here to take over her assets," Thoreen said. "He's here to get her medical help. He's here to take over while she's healing."

Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz denied Streisand's request to be Spears' counsel, and also extended the restraining order against the singer's friend/manager, Sam Lutfi.

Meanwhile, Spears, who was originally scheduled to be released from UCLA's psychiatric ward on Sunday, after spending 72 hours for a mental evaluation, will be staying for two weeks instead.

According to California state law, patients may be kept for medical treatment if they are gravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others.
