Roger Clemens testifies before Congress

Roger Clemens, The Seven Time Cy Young award winner, truly had to play hard ball today when he insisted to congress (for a second time) that he did not use performance enhancing drugs
"I appreciate the opportunity to tell this committee and the public - under oath - what I have been saying all along: I never used steroids, human growth hormone, or any other type of illegal drugs," Clemens stated in press release prior to the hearing
In the past, Clemens’ statements were never brought under fire, but today the Congressional committee had lost of question to ask the baseball legend
"You understand that you're under oath"" Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) asked Clemens at one point in the hearing
"That's correct," Clemens stated in a powerful, asserting voice
Most of the questioning that went on stemmed from teammate Andy Petite’s testimony that the pitcher had spoke with him about using HGH in approximately 1999 or 2000
"I think he misremembers our conversation," said Clemens about his ‘supposed’ talk with Petite. When answering questions, he never once paused or recoiled, always keeping composure in front of the judging eye of the congressional committee. Clemens denied over and over again that he used the performance enhancing drugs or injected steroids given to him by friend and trainer Brian McNamee
"I am saying that Brian McNamee's statements about me are wrong," Clemens said. "Once again, I never took steroids or human growth hormone."
McNamee outright denied everything that Clemens said, later stating that he thought the number of times he injected Clemens was higher than he had earlier estimated.
"Make no mistake," McNamee testified. "When I told (investigators) that I injected Roger Clemens with performance enhancing drugs, I told the truth."
Clemens arrived at 9:52 a.m., looking emotionless impassive as he walked past a line of people waiting to enter the courtroom where he was testifying.
Sitting emotionless he listened as Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) stated that the sports superstar’s denials about steroid and HGH use were "untrue" and "implausible," with the testimony from McNamee and Pettitte. Clemens listened with a gloomy face as senator gave his disappointing opening statements
McNamee, Clemens’s former trainer and the key witness in the case, arrived to the courtroom minutes before Clemens had. Once McNamee was in the courtroom, he gave the damaging that Clemens had been dreading, stating that he had injected the player “16 to 21” times.
A crowd of people showed up and waited outside of the heated courtroom to see the two go head to head. Although they sat within close proximity, they both stared straight ahead never once looking at each other.
The two were once inseparable, but from the courtroom tension today and the testimony given by McNamee, it looks like their future as good friends is as likely as Roger Clemens winning this case.
