Karan Johar busy in release of My Name Is Khan’s English version

Karan Johar is currently in New York for the release of the English version of My Name Is Khan in two theatres of New York on May 5.

 

“It is meant for the non-NRI audience. It’s crisper, sharper cut and we hope to create a new market for Bollywood films,” says Karan.

Karan Johar, who left for New York for three weeks on Tuesday night, has discovered a new side to his personality that he never knew existed.Hosting the show Lift Kara De which ended last week, he discovered how little people from privileged classes gave to the needy.

 

Says Karan, “I don’t know how successful the show was. But it put me in touch with the real world. The show was about philanthropy and I understood the joy there is in giving. To meet all those needy individuals who came on the show connected me to a reality that most of us in the entertainment industry are cut off from the outside world.”

 

Karan was also bowled over by the amazing connectivity between the audience and the stars.

 

“Akshay Kumar,” Karan says, “with whom I recorded my last episode of Lift Kara De, has such an amazing and genuine bonding with his fans. Who says stars don’t care for the common man?”

 

Though the TRPs of Lift Kara De were not too encouraging Karan decided after hosting the show is to make a cinema that is reflective of a far larger truth than the elitist lifestyle his characters almost always assume.

 

Immediately on the anvil after his return from New York is Season 3 of Koffee With Karan. “I start work on that in July. But it won’t be in the same chatty mood any more. I think two recent events my film My Name Is Khan and to a lesser extent the TV show Lift Kara De have made me less self-centered. They’ve made me look outward into the world outside.”

Kajol little worried about the dance steps in Stepmom!

She may be pregnant but that hasn’t deterred Kajol from working as hard as she does. While shooting for a song for Siddharth Malhotra’s remake of Stepmom, Kajol had to do some energetic dance steps. She had to be able to do as fine a job as Elvis Presley did in Jailhouse Rock, seeing as that was the song she was shooting for. The filmmakers have bought the rights of the song.

Buzz up!Kajol was a little worried about the dance steps affecting her health. She wasn’t too sure about the steps when choreographers Bosco and Ceaser showed them to her during rehearsals. She asked them to tone the steps down considerably.

 

The steps were changed as per her request but as the shoot went on, she started to enjoy it and as it is one of her favourite songs, she danced along with the rhythm of the song. Finally, she ended up doing something similar to what the choreographers had earlier planned.

 

The film team was naturally concerned and was very alert throughout. In one portion, she was supposed to dance on a piano. Though Kajol wasn’t worried about it, the unit was very protective. The director even suggested that the sequence could be done away with but Kajol had no qualms doing it.

 

In the film, Kajol plays Arjun Rampal’s ex-wife while Kareena plays his girlfriend. Both Arjun and Kareena were part of the song too.

 

According to the director, all of the actors have just put in their best into the song and they enjoyed shooting for it. He hopes that the fun they had while shooting is reflected when audiences see the song.

Kajol was voted as favourite bahu

Acclaimed Bollywood actress Kajol who is married to actor Ajay Devgn for 11 years now, was voted the favourite bahu (daughter-in law) in a poll conducted by matrimonial site shaadi.com.

As part of the upcoming International Women's Day celebrations on Monday, shaadi.com conducted a poll in which 250,000 women participated.

In the poll, 43.08 percent women said Kajol was their favourite Bollywood daughter-in-law.

 

Besides Kajol, others vying for the position were Aishwarya Rai, Gauri Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Malaika Arora, Twinkle Khanna and Kiran Rao.

 

"The women's day poll is part of the constant research that shaadi.com conducts in its attempt to gauge the preferences of its members. The results show that today the women are looking to be more independent and are willing to adopt stronger roles in their life. They believe in themselves and aspire to emulate top achievers in their field," said Gourav Rakshit, business head, shaadi.com.

Happy Anniversary Ajay-Kajol

Ajay Devgan and Kajol celebrate 11 years of blissful married life  on February 24th. The wonderful couple always make it a point to celebrate their anniversary together.

The awesome twosome are throwing a party for friends and family at their residence in Juhu. Ajay-Kajol’s daughter Nysa,6, is going to be the host of the evening.

 

Ajay describes Kajol as a very dedicated wife and her dedication to the institution of marriage has helped them strengthen their bond with each passing year.

My Name is Khan Sets New Box Office Record

Karan Johar's much-anticipated new film My Name is Khan broke the record for the largest opening weekend ever for a Hindi film in North America grossing an estimated $1.86 million in its first weekend, February 12-14. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the Fox Searchlight release averaged a stellar $15,500 from 120 theaters across the United States and Canada. The previous record was held by Khan's musical extravaganza Om Shanti Om which grossed $1.76 million from 114 theaters when it was released over the Diwali holiday weekend in 2007.

 

My Name is Khan opened on Friday with $444,000, rose 65% to $734,000 on Saturday, and is estimated to dip 7% to $682,000 on Sunday, Valentine's Day. Monday's Presidents' Day holiday in the US will lead to a four-day debut of more than $2 million. MNIK also generated the highest per-theater average of any film in the Top 20 over the weekend.

Shahrukh & Kajol first Bollywood stars to ring the NASDAQ bell

The month of February has started and with it has begun the active promotion of My Name Is Khan. The movie is releasing on 12th of this month and Shahrukh Khan and Kajol are in New York promoting the film. The stars became the first Indian cine stars to ring the opening bell of New York stock exchange, NASDAQ.

 

As reported, the star Jodi of MNIK was invited there by the Fox Searchlight Pictures, who are distributing the film in the US, to open trading at the world’s biggest stock exchange by ringing the bell.

 

Later, while addressing the New Yorkers, Khan and Kajol talked about the film. If Shahrukh was dressed in black for the event, Kajol looked alluring as ever in a red coloured salwar suit designed by Manish Malhotra. SRK also clarified that the movie is not related to his detention at Newark Airport last year: “The film has nothing to do with it. It is a love story...and what people can do to achieve their love.”

 

Shahrukh even tweeted about this, “Nasdaq will be fun. Have to make sure I reach on time, otherwise will end up being blamed for economic upheaval across the world too..ha ha.”

SRK, Kajol’s “My Name Is Khan” set for Valentine’s week release

“My Name Is Khan” — Bollywood’s favourite on-screen couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s first film together in eight years — is set to release Feb 12 next year.

Directed by Karan Johar, the film will open in theatres in India and over 40 countries including the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East, said a press release from Johar’s Dharma Productions.

“My Name is Khan” features Shah Rukh as Rizvan Khan, an unconventional hero who embarks on a journey across America to win back the love of his life. It shows how, along the way, his unique personality touches the lives of many and inspires a nation.

“I keep setting out to do something different with my films, but the one constant that remains is my desire to continue to explore the many ways in which two people can fall in love and stay in love regardless of any or every challenge against them,” said Karan.

The film also marks a re-teaming of Johar and Shah Rukh after three years — their last outing together was “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”.

Johar has made his film in association with Fox STAR Studios, 20th Century Fox International and Fox Searchlight Pictures.

While Fox STAR Studios will market and distribute the film in India, Fox Searchlight Pictures will release it in the US. The distribution of the movie outside India and the US will be taken care of by Twentieth Century Fox International.

According to Vijay Singh, CEO Fox Star Studios, the film is drawing a “hugely positive response from exhibitors across the world” for the “coming together of Shah Rukh, Karan and Kajol”.

“It is a big event for Bollywood audiences across the world and their fan base is eagerly awaiting the release. But what makes ‘My Name is Khan’ a special film is that it brings together the finest Indian talent with a powerful story that has relevance for audiences everywhere,” added Singh.

The pair of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, are creating trouble on the streets of San Francisco, US. No, they are not throwing starry tantrums but pulling in crowds, thus making the crew of My Name Is Khan run from pillar to post to carry out their work.With huge Indian population in the US, and Shahrukh being a popular face even amongst the non-Indians, it has become impossible for the shooting of My Name Is Khan to continue as scheduled.

The situation has made acting even more tougher, as background sounds couldn't be used with noises of Shahrukh and Kajol fans filling the streets.Well, the cast and crew of My Name Is Khan have to bear some more gruelling days in the US, as the shooting is yet to complete. Kajol looks mesmerizing as the cover-girl of ‘M’

She has taken all efforts to get back on shape and her efforts have paid or so it seems as she poses with her killer looks for the cover page of ‘M’, a lifestyle and luxury magazine for men.

Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are in Los Angeles now shooting for their latest project ‘My Name Is Khan’. Now, Kajol plays an NRI woman in the film and her character requires her to look thin. So, Kajol is on a weight losing spree now so that she fits the bill and some super sexy dresses.

She has forgone her binging habit and has started with a special diet. Her instructor is taking care that Kajol includes lots of nuts, especially almonds in her diet. Apart from keeping a tab on the calorie intake, Kajol is sweating it out at the gym too to cut that extra flab. Moreover, SRK also needs to look lean as he plays an NRI Muslim man here. Hope this superhit jodi of the silver screen with their leaner looks weaves the same magic as it had done in ‘DDLJ’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and so on.

Kajol will be honoured by Karamveer Puruskar award

Bollywood actress Kajol is to be awarded for the effort she has made to help educate underprivileged children.

She is among few actresses who have tried to give back to society. And for this effort, Kajol will be honoured by ICONGO, a confederation of NGOs and Khemka Foundation, with a Karamveer Puruskar award.

The award, to be given away on Wednesday, recognises individuals who have been pivotal in leading change beyond their profession by being committed to social issues.

"I believe that social commitment is as important as our professional and personal commitment. It is indeed an honour to have been selected for this award. I will keep doing my bit and giving back to society the best in my capacity,” said Kajol in a press release.

Apart from being goodwill ambassador and patron of the Britain-based Loomba Trust - a charity devoted to educating widows’ children, particularly in India, Kajol also works with an NGO called Shiksha.

Kajol was last seen in hubby Ajay Devgan’s self-directed U Me Aur Hum . She would now work opposite Shahrukh Khan in Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan .

SRK and Kajol to sizzle soon

Fans of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol need not wait till next year to see the hit couple on-screen, for the two will share a cameo in this year’s big release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Aditya Chopra’s upcoming film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will see the super-hit jodi together once again. If sources are to be believed, Kajol will make a special appearance in the film.

A source confirmed the above adding that the song is shot at Yash Raj Studios. Yash Raj Films is thrilled to have Kajol on board once again as SRK-Kajol films have always done well at the box-office.”

Karan Johar has already signed up Kajol has the lead heroine in his forthcoming terrorist flick My Name Is Khan, where she will play the wife of Shah Rukh Khan. This film is expected to release late 2009.
