Pro-wrestler Chris Benoit and his family were found dead their suburban Atlanta mansion early Monday morning. At this time authorities are calling it a murder/suicide. Officials at World Wrestling Entertainment alerted authorities that something may not be right after receiving, what cops are calling "bizarre" text messages on Sunday. The details regarding these text messages has not been released at this time. Some reports claim that Benoit may have strangled his wife on Saturday, smothered his son on Sunday, and then hung himself in his weight room sometime early Monday.
Authorities plan to make an official statement about the crime once autopsy reports have been completed on all the victims.
Benoit was an intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career. He was well known for his chiseled physique and for being incredibly talented in the ring. Benoit was admired by all of his peers for his attitude and the respect he demanded in a out of the ring. His biggest dream of his career came at Wrestlemania 20 in 2004 when he defeated Shawn Michaels and the champion Triple H in a triple threat match at Madison Square Gardens and won the WWE world heavyweight championship for the first time.
