Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are fighting for MMKR!

According to sources, Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are fighting for the remake rights of Kamal Haasan's comedy entertainer Michael Madana Kama Rajan (MMKR). In Michael Madana Kama Rajan, which redefined the comedy genre in Tamil cinema, Kamal Haasan played four different roles: Micheal, Madan, Kama and Rajan. The film narrated a series of interesting events in the life of a quadruplets separated just after birth. The movie was directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao; Kamal had also written and produced it.

The latest buzz is that film maker Farah Khan (of Om Shanti Om fame) is planning to remake the film with Salman Khan, while director Priyadarshan wants to rope in Akshay Kumar for the same film.

Mallika Sherawat doing item song with Akshay Kumar!

Its the season of item songs. After ‘Munni Badnaam’ and ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, it is now Mallika Sherawat’s turn as she will be seen shaking her body in an item number called ‘Razia Gundo Mein Phasn Gayi’ in Anees Bazmee’s multi starrer “Thank You“.

Joining Mallika Sherawat in this song would be Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Bobby Deol. The actress even tweeted about this and said, “filmed a song with Akshay Kumar:) love the song title: Razia gundo mein gaye  will post some pics later…”

It may be recalled that Mallika had done a special appearance in Anees Bazmee’s blockbuster Welcome. Hence he could think of no one else but Madame Sherawat for this item song. Whether it will go on to achieve cult status is something that only time will tell”.

Trisha upset with the media!

South India actress Trisha Krishnan, who teamed up with Askhay Kumar in 'Khatta Meetha', is upset with the media for trashing the comedy.

'I am a bit net buff and read everything. The reviews were bit disheartening. The reviews have trashed the movie. I don't know box-office wise, it's too early to speak, I guess,' Trisha told IANS in an interview. But she doesn't regret doing the movie.

 

'I don't regret because it's a baby step in Bollywood and I would not have got a better package. It had a big director, big hero and I am happy with it,' said Trisha.

 

In 'Khatta Meetha', Trisha plays a municipal commissioner with Akshay essaying the role of a struggling construction contractor.

 

'People said that probably I didn't fit the role of the commissioner. The commissioner should be a slightly older person. Actually, it was a very backhanded compliment in a way. I did feel that a commissioner should look a bit mature,' said the actress.

 

'Friends were honest to say that they didn't like me in the commissioner's role. They like me as a college girl. It was a risk because I have never done something like this. Even in South, I have done different kind of roles, but never this kind of a role,' she said.

Trisha’s presence for Akshay or Kamal?

Trisha has completed her first film in Bollywood under the baton of Priyadarshan. The film ‘Katta Meetha’ is all set for release next week and the director is upset with his heroine now.

Promotions are the make or break element in the success of Bollywood films recently and toeing it Priyadarshan has made elaborate plans for the promotional activities of the film releasing on July 23.

 

But all his plans may lose the steam as the heroine of the film; Trisha will not be available for the promotions. Trisha is in Europe shooting for the K S Ravikumar-Kamal Haasan film ‘Manmadhan Ambu’. It’s unlikely she will leave the Kamal film for Akshay Kumar.

 

It may be remembered that Asin went all out in the promotions of her first Hindi film ‘Ghajini’ along with Aamir Khan. But it seems only Akshay Kumar will have to occupy the space of Trisha on the promotional chart of ‘Khatta Meetha’.

Trisha doing comic role with Akshay

Trisha's Bollywood debut Khatta Meetha is all set to grace theatres worldwide on July 23, 2010. Trisha initially began her career in the South with Priyadarshan’s Lesa Lesa. “Yes I was launched by Priyadarshan seven and half years ago. I am glad that he remembered me when he was doing this film. My debut venture is with Akshay Kumar, what more could I ask for. "I’ve done comedy in Telugu films but not attempted it in Tamil cinema. In Khatta Meetha too, my character does not have a comic track, it’s more serious. All the comedy is handled by Akshay Kumar. I can’t reveal much about the film at this point but it’s the story of a collector and a road contractor,” she revealed.

 

Trisha says she is looking forward to the release of the movie. “I am nervous as well as excited but am banking on it. In the meantime, I am making most of my time shopping without being conscious of the fact that I am a star in Mumbai,” she added.

Katrina Kaif keeps Akshay Kumar waiting

After the blockbuster of ‘Singh Is Kinng’, the makers of the film are keen to make its sequel. But wait is for Katrina Kaif.

The film will roll when Katrina Kaif will become free from her other assignments. Meanwhile, she is busy with other projects and not able to give dates to Akshay.

 

In stead of Anees Bazmee, the film will be directed by Vipul Shah as Anees is busy with other projects. The shooting will commence very soon and the sequel would start from Australia.

 

Akshay and Katrina has delivered hit after hit. They are considered lucky mascot for each other. So, Akshay is keen to have Katrina in the sequel too.

Like ‘Singh Is Kinng’, Akshay will again don the Sikh avatar in the second part also. Next Akshay will be seen in Vipul Shah’s.

 

‘Action Replay’ with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Together Akshay and Vipul have delivered number of hits and now they are waiting for another blockbuster.

Akshay and Aishwarya as 1970s romantic couples

A trip down memory lane it’s gonna be for Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai when they shoot an unusual song for director Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s film Action Replayy later this month in the hilly town of Manali in north India.

Through the song, titled ‘Nakhre Nakhre’, the vintage romance as seen in the Hindi films of 1970s will be recreated. It’s a breezy, teasy number that will have Akshay and Ash paying tribute to the romantic couples that ruled the hearts of movie buffs back then.

 

From what we learn, the song will weave the magic of love jodis of yore like Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra-Hema Malini, Shashi Kapoor-Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh and Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz.

 

The number, composed by Pritam, will not just have Ash and Akki impersonate the aforementioned stars, they will don similar dresses and make-up as well.

 

‘Action Replayy’ is an unusual love story that unfolds backwards in time.

Akshay Kumar - The top tax-payer

Contradictory to earlier reports, Akshay Kumar becomes the top tax-payer in Bollywood, yet again. Akki has pipped to the post stars like Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan to top the list.

And now we understand why Akki was chosen to feature in the ad by the Income-Tax Department to promote compliance with taxes. Surprisingly, the star had no big hits last year, and all his mega-budget films Chandni Chowk to China, Kambakkht Ishq and Blue bombed at the box office. Then too, he paid an advance tax of Rs 9 crore in March 2010, reveals a daily. Now, his total advance tax payment in the current financial year is of Rs 18 crore. Last year, he paid a sum of Rs 31 crore as taxes.

 

However, according to some media reports, it was Shahrukh as the top tax-payer but he reportedly comes in the third position. Aamir ranks second with the advance payment of Rs 12 crore.

 

Among others top tax-payers are Abhishek Bachhcan, Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor who joins the league this year with an advance tax payment of Rs 2.1 crore.

Katrina Kaif hurt while shooting with Akshay

Katrina Kaif ended up getting hurt while shooting a groovy dance sequence with Akshay Kumar for Farah Khan’s film Tees Maar Khan at Malshej Ghat, a few hours’ drive from Mumbai.

It appears that both Katrina and Akshay were in a groovy mood and wanted to put their best foot forward while filming a ballet-like dance sequence on Friday. However, due to some mistiming in the dance move or perhaps they got too close, Katrina’s head bumped into Akshay’s jaw and teeth.

 

Strangely, nothing happened to Akshay but Katrina got injured on her head and felt dizzy and disoriented after the bump. While Farah Khan rushed to look after her, Akshay was in a jocular mood and scared Katrina further by saying that she would have to get a few stitches.

 

Katrina was attended by a doctor and given all medical attention. She’s learnt to have resumed the film’s shoot now.

 

Just a few days back, Katrina had fainted on the sets of the movie. Before that she battled a series of health scares including food poisoning and surgery.

Akshay Kumar slapped by a monkey!

Action star Akshay Kumar recently enjoyed a tight slap from an extraordinary monkey. The ‘Khiladi Kumar’ did not mind it at all and took it sportingly as it was a part of a comic sequence in ‘Housefull’.

The actor was happy that the monkey, in question, was a special one – a Hollywood star. The monkey named Tara, a10-year-old female capuchin, rose to stardom as Captain Barbossa`s monkey ‘Jack’ in the Johnny Depp-starrer ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’.

 

Tara is a superstar and according to reports, she has a whole range of toys designed after her character in the ‘Pirates…’. Sources reveal that when producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sajid Khan tried to get the monkey’s dates for their film, they came across a problem. Her dates clashed with those of Akshay Kumar. The producer-director finally managed to get one day for their shoot and the comic shot was completed at one go.

 

Sajid Nadiadwala is trying his best to get Tara’s dates to promote the film and bring her safely to Mumbai. After all, she is no less a star than Akshay Kumar.

In the filmi circuit, Lara Dutta’s known to be not too friendly. Her co-star from Housefull, Akshay Kumar, remarks, “She’s a very serious person.

She doesn’t talk much.” To this, Lara says, “Yes I don’t talk much when I’m on the sets. You need to be serious about your work. I’m focussed about what I want to do, so I do that and leave.” But she doesn’t agree to the image that she’s not very friendly.

 

Watch me when I’m with my friends and you’ll agree that I’m fun-loving,” she said and adds, “About Akshay saying that I don’t talk much, well, with him around, who really gets a chance to talk. He does all the talking, so you are forced to keep quiet,” she smiles.

Akshay Kumar gettings Rs 25 crore for underwear ads

Bollywood’s original khiladi Akshay Kumar might show some daring stunts while sporting innerwear. No kidding. Akki has replaced Bollywood hunk Salman Khan to become the new face of Dollar Club, an innerwear brand.

 

In fact, the company has plans to spend Rs 25 crore on the ad campaign which will feature Akshay. So what does the star have to say on his first innerwear endorsement?

The actor tells a tabloid, “I am happy to be associated with Dollar Innerwear because there is a perfect fit between Dollar and me, since the brand stands for style of the future generation and I have been always a style statement for younger generation.”

 

Akki is soon going to shoot for the ads in some foreign locales which are likely to be aired in the first week of February.

Akshay Kumar canceled his shooting

Recently, Akshay Kumar had a very severe back pain for which he had to cancel his shoot. Usually, Akshay Kumar is very dedicated to his work and hardly cancels his shoot. But the pain took over his head and he was bound to cancel his shoot for his own production, Patiala House.

Akki has been working non-stop for Nikhil Advani’s film at Mehboob studio and has acquired the back pain during an action sequence. A source reveals, "Since he performs stunts on his own, it takes a greater toll on the back. And he's had a back problem for a really long time. The pain wasn't getting any lesser. Akshay decided to call it a wrap and rest for the day. The doctor advised the actor physiotherapy and adequate rest."

 

Since he is the producer of the film, he doesn’t mind taking a break but he has the record of carrying shooting for other producers in the past even in the adverse condition. Confirms Nikhil Advani, "Yes, Akshay hurt his back while shooting. His back got strained earlier in the day during his exercises, but after the shoot, it got further aggravated."

 

In spite of the unbearable pain Akki joined the Mumbai Marathon as he was committed to it.

Trisha delights Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar, it turns out, wasn’t wrong in putting his trust in director Priyadarshan for casting an appropriate leading lady opposite him in his new film Khatta Meetha. The superstar may have had his doubts when Priyadarshan roped in the south star Trisha Krishnan, but all the apprehensions were laid to rest on the movie’s sets.

Like a true professional Trisha hadn’t hid the fact from both Priyadarshan and Akki that she isn’t very fluent in Hindi, though she studied the language in her school. But when the movie’s shoot began in a village a 100 kilometres away from Pune, Trisha took everyone by surprise.

“Trisha is turning out to be the surprise package. Before the shoot, she had informed us that she couldn’t converse in Hindi…But she took all of us by surprise when she spoke fluently in Hindi. I could see the smile on Akki’s face as he was delighted with her performance,” Priyadarshan is quoted as saying by a news daily.

Priyan went on to reveal that Trisha has a pivotal role in the film. She plays two characters in different time periods. The director also clarifies that it’s not a double role, but he promises that Trisha will get more footage in ‘Khatta Meetha’ than any actress has got in his previous films.

Akshay All Set For 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects'

Producer Pritish Nandy is finally ready to start the Pyaar Ke Side Effects sequel, that too without the charming Rahul Bose whose portrayal of a casual, confused, commitment-phobic lover boy trying to win her ladylove back, made PKSE such an enduring rom-com of recent times. But, Akshay Kumar was the first and the only choice of Nandy for the sequel.

And here is another jolt for the readers; the movie won’t star Mallika Sherawat . She reportedly said no to the project. So it’s a PKSE sequel, minus Bose and Sherawat. Rather Sonam Kapoor is being considered for the female lead.

Director Saket Choudhary and Pritish Nandy have met Akshay with the script and the actor has liked the final copy. Akshay is quoted as saying in a media report, “The script is funny and interesting. Saket is a talented director and I am always looking for fresh talented directors to work with.”

So it will be Akki who will take forward the character of Sid. And Sonam will expectedly play Trisha. The actress has not yet been approached. Pritish will approach her once Akshay makes his dates available.

But the makers haven’t clarified if the movie will narrate a new story or will take forward the Sid-Trisha tale. We just hope they don’t spoil the sequel by glossing it over with big stars but no substance.

With 'Kambakkht Ishq' grossing Rs 100 crore already, you'd think that Akshay Kumar would be one of the cockiest actors in Bollywood.

The star has been rising despite some flukes and despite bad press for 'Kambakkht Ishq', but from the numbers, Akshay Kumar appears to be the new King of Bollywood.

However, Akshay Kumar said something a little different about his rise in Bollywood. He said "Really, ever since the time it became loud and clear that 'Kambakkht Ishq' had succeeded amongst the audiences, I'm being asked if I'm marching towards the top again.

My reply to them is that I'm happy living and dying being where I am and that's anywhere but on top...See, I'm a clown and not a king. Once a clown, always a clown! I belong in the ring, not on the podium."

In his recent interview, he was the first to admit that he's more interested in clowning around rather than taking the throne.

Aishwarya takes a day off before shooting for Action Replay to meet parents

The Padma Shri pair Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan rushed back from different parts of the world to resume shooting for Vipul Shah’s Action Replay in Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai at Nitin Desai’s studio. But while Akshay proceeded straight from the airport on landing from Singapore, Aishwarya on landing from Cannes took a day off on Monday to spend with her parents before leaving for Karjat. "It was a long spell. Shooting in Karjat for prolonged periods is not new to Aishwarya. For Jodhaa Akbar she was stationed in Karjat for so long that it became her second home. But now circumstances have changed. After her father’s illness, Aishwarya doesn’t like to be away from Mumbai for prolonged periods.


Even when she was shooting in the jungles of Kerala for Mani Ratnam’s film, Aishwarya made sure she visited Mumbai to be with her father. Though she never lets it show in her work, being away from home is very difficult for her now and she would like to shoot as much as possible in Mumbai. Ironically, almost all her films are being shot outside the city. " Her father’s health scare has bonded Aishwarya with others who are similarly traumatized by terminal illness in the industry. Says a source, "Aishwarya kept track of Feroz Khan’s health through Fardeen and when he passed away she was deeply affected. At the prayer meeting Fardeen and Aishwarya exchanged notes like two wounded war veterans." Father’s health is now Aishwarya’s primary concern. On landing from Cannes on Monday, Ash decided to break her journey to spend a day with her parents. "It was something I had to do. I did it more for myself than for them," she said before taking off to Karjat.

'Hats off to Katrina Kaif,' says Akshay

Katrina Kaif recently shot for a water skiing stunt with such confidence that her co-star Akshay Kumar was left utterly impressed by the Bollywood beauty’s bravado. Akshay himself struggled at the stunt. The Khiladi who loves to flirt with danger finally found a stunt at which he fumbled time and again. It happened during the shooting of Priyadarshan’s movie De Dana Dan in Singapore. “I have never fallen on my ass so many times in one day I swear...You know at the back of my mind I’ve always wondered what is going to be ‘that’ thing in life I’m gonna find unbelievably difficult??... Ha Ha, I’ve found it...Ladies and Gentlemen it was Water Skiing,” Akshay writes in his latest blog post. Recalling the way he struggled at learning water skiing, Akshay wrote that director Priyadarshan only gave him half an hour thinking it won’t be difficult for Akki to master water skiing.


“Well surprise surprise, water skiing ain’t that easy, it looks so graceful and easy and killer cool to do, you know, anyone could do it. Well I’m sorry, I was so so wrong, it’s ridiculously harder than it looks and so much funnier,” Akshay wrote. The Singh Is Kinng star wrote that it took him a few hours to learn the skill, but once he had got the hang of it, he could even carry Katrina Kaif on his back while water skiing. “…needless to say it took a few more times than first expected to nail this thing, but by lunch not only had I cracked it, I was carrying the incredibly beautiful and brave Katrina Kaif on my back whilst whizzing round on this thing like it was second nature,” the actor wrote. And what impressed Akshay was the way Kat pulled off the stunt with confidence and fearlessness. “So I must say hats off to Katrina, she did extremely well, not many heroines I know would have tried and succeeded as much as Kat did, well done girl...” the actor gushed.
