Breaking News in the baseball world - Major League Baseball star Manny Ramirez will be suspended for 50 games because he has tested positive for steroids. The Los Angeles Dodgers star said he did not take steroids and was prescribed medication by a doctor that contained a banned substance.
"Recently, I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me,'' Ramirez said in a statement issued by the players' union.
Hmm, that's what they all say! The suspension will cost Ramirez $7.7 million, or roughly 31% of his $25-million salary. Other baseball players that have found themselves in the same sticky (and stupid!) predicament? Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco have been implicated in the use of performance-enhancing drugs. What are your thoughts? Has the game of baseball lost players with actual raw talent and love of the game?
