Actress Celina Jaitley has known gays all through her life. Her first boyfriend, for instance, was a gay. There’s a reason why Celina is taking up the gay cause so fervently, despite all the hate mails she’s getting from people. Many of her close friends have been gays. Her first brush with a homosexual was at the tender age of 16. Baring her heart out to a news network, Celina revealed that she first fell in love with a handsome man when she was just 16. He was many years elder to her, but he confessed his love for her. But as the relationship progressed Celina noted something strange about him. He would always meet her publicly and would be furious if Celina met him when he was with his male friends.
Celina confesses that gradually her relationship with him began to sour. He began to physically abuse her. She even suspected that he was seeing another woman. Then, one day, Celina decided to check up on him. She made an unannounced visit to his house and ‘caught him’ with his male friend. The truth was revealed. The man was gay. But leaving him was still very difficult for Celina. She struggled with her feelings, and was at the receiving end of another phase of physical abuse before she decided to end the relationship. Years later, the two got in touch again and became very good friends. Unfortunately the man died soon. After that, Celina says, she has befriended many gays and she has come to “believe that the kind of person you are has nothing to do with your sexuality.” She says she would continue to fight for gay rights, irrespective of the hate mails she gets from people.
