Ledger Wins the Golden Globe
In his first major posthumous award, Heath Ledger took home the Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his role of the Joker in The Dark Knight.Director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on behalf of Ledger. As his name was announced the entire audience stood to pay their respect to the late actor. A clip was played from The Dark Knight, and Nolan said a few words about Ledger.
Ledger's performance as the Joker has been called one of the best performances of all time. There is a lot of speculation that he will also take home an Oscar for his performance. (Bernadette watched it in it's entirety HERE)
Golden Globes Nominations Announced; Heath Ledger Gets a Nod
How about a Critics Choice Awards nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, and -- hopefully -- an Oscar nomination?
The Golden Globes nominees were announced this morning, and some of the usual suspects were on board: Tom Cruise as Best Supporting Actor in Tropic Thunder; Brad Pitt as Best Actor in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; Angelina Jolie as Best Supporting Actress in The Changeling.
Of course, Heath Ledger picked up a nod as Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight. He was the only one to be nominated for anything from the film.
I don't normally get involved in active campaigning for celebrity awards, but THIS is different: Heath WAS the Joker. He made Jack Nicholson look like a Boy Scout. He played it to the hilt. And he died for the role. That's not hyperbole -- that role messed his head up so bad, that...well, we know what happened. If he doesn't get EVERY single award for it, I will personally fly to California to recount the votes myself.

Yeah, RIGHT!
Photo Credit: Girl Shaped HabitThe Post-Chronicle reports that Mary-Kate Olsen is pregnant.
The 22-year-old star - who shot to fame alongside twin sister Ashley in hit US TV show 'Full House' at nine months old - has sparked rumors she is expecting her first child after her weight shot up to 102lbs (WHOOP-DE-DOO!), according to National Enquirer magazine.
A source said: "Mary-Kate has been looking a lot rounder recently. It is good she has put on weight, because she previously suffered from anorexia, but a lot of people think she could actually be attempting to hide her pregnancy."
Mary-Kate has been dating New York artist Nate Lowman since the beginning of the year and is said to have been inspired to start a family by late actor, and close friend, Heath Ledger
- who told her becoming a father was the most rewarding thing he had ever done.
The source added: "Mary-Kate really took Heath's words to heart. She wanted the same kind of fulfillment in her life that Heath found in his after becoming a dad.
"She is really happy with Nate and is very excited they will soon be starting their family together."
Michelle Williams At NY Film Festival
Actress Michelle Williams stepped out to promote her new movie for the 46th annual New York Film Festival premiere of “Wendy and Lucy” over the weekend. She looks gooooooood! It's been announced that Michelle and Heath’s daughter, Matilda, will be the sole inheritor of Heath’s $20 million estate at the wishes of “The Dark Knight” actor’s parents.
“There is no claim,’’ Mr Kim Ledger said. “Our family has gifted everything to Matilda.’’ That's so wonderful and generous. It's great to see that there is no fighting over this money like you see with most stars estates.
Held at the Ziegfeld Theatre, Michelle happily posed on the red carpet while mingling with director Kelly Reichardt and co-stars Will Patton and Larry Fessenden. PCM is feeling that cream strapless dress, she's adorable!
Rent Heath Ledger's Apartment

The apartment where Heath Ledger died is available for rent. GEEZ, that's kind of creepy but we're guessing there's a die-hard rich fan out there somewhere that will certainly do it.
Ledger's three-bedroom loft is on the market for $26,000 a month, says TMZ. Oh, that's nothing, right?! WOW! The Broome St. loft has its own private balcony, original Corinthian columns, and a wood-burning fireplace.
Heath paid around $22K a month before he was found dead there in January.
Touching Hollywood Story
According to the UK's The Sun, the three Hollywood stars who completed Heath Ledger's final film role have donated their pay to his two-year-old daughter, Matilda. Are they serious? Maybe people in Hollywood really do have hearts - this is so touching! Apparently Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell were worried for Matilda’s future as Heath left an old will which did not include the little one. Talk about Hollywood dad's looking out for a young girl! So sweet - we hope this story is true! The actors played versions of Heath's character in the upcoming fantasy The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.
Film director Terry Gilliam said, “They didn’t take money — it goes to Heath’s daughter. That’s extraordinary! And wonderful . . . and when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people. And we’ve got a movie full of wonderful people who did extraordinary things to help.”
Mary-Kate Olsen Refuses Interview
Mary-Kate Olsen is refusing to be interviewed by the FBI pertaining to Heath Ledger's death. The actress has refused to answer any questions unless she is granted immunity from prosecution. The actress's lawyers have continuously shot down the authorities attempts to question her.
Olsen was the first person contacted when a masseuse found Ledger's dead body in her SoHo apartment in January.
Her behavior probes the question: was Ledger's death, which has been ruled an accident, really that accidental?
Officials are looking to obtain a grand-jury subpoena if Olsen continues to refuse to be interviewed. Officials are looking to question the actress about The Dark Knight star's behavior, alleged drug use and what happened that fateful January morning.
Officials have already interviewed everyone associated with Ledger and his death including doctors, maids, the masseuse, bodyguards, business associates and Michelle Williams, the mother of his two-year-old daughter, Matilda.
Heath Ledger Bar In NYC
Before Heath Ledger's death earlier this year, the Aussie actor was a partner and investor in a bar he planned to open in Brooklyn. The reason it hasn't been opened was due to financial costs. But now..Heath's father, Kim, stated that Ledger would have wanted the bar to move forward. So, being the executor of his estate, he allowed the release of the funds his son had previously allocated for the project. The bar is located at the corner of Lorimer Street and Bedford Avenue in Greenpoint (Brooklyn), New York.
The new venue has a nautical theme and it is going to be called Five Leaves (after "Swan cigarette papers that tell you when there are just five left in a package").
It will be opened before the end of the year.
Heath Ledger's Family @ Dark Knight Premiere
The family of Heath Ledger came from Australia to NYC to see their beloved son/brother play the Joker at last night’s premiere of “The Dark Knight.”Heath’s father Kim Ledger and stepmother Ines made a beeline for the doors at the AMC Loews Lincoln Center cinema, completely avoiding the red carpet.
After the movie, as Kim Ledger emerged from the theater and was asked what he thought of the film, he gave his seal of approval with a big ‘thumbs up.’
Theater In Australia Named After Ledger
A theater in Perth, Australia was named after actor Heath Ledger. The $87 million, 575-seat Heath Ledger Theater in the actor's hometown was named in his honor for his commitment to acting.“Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that’s what made him successful,” Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said at a naming ceremony. “I think what we’re doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be.”
Christian Bale Talks About Heath Ledger: Dark Knight Interview Exclusive
Actor Christian Bale, the star of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, revealed some deep thoughts about his late co-star Heath Ledger in the new issue of Parade.Your co-star Heath Ledger, who plays The Joker, died tragically after the film wrapped. Do you mind talking about him? No, listen, I want to talk about Heath. When you miss somebody, you want to speak about him. He was a unique character, a very infectious character. He was a good man, and I was glad to have spent time with him. He was somebody who I’d been seeing on a daily basis for months. It takes a long time to accept that someone’s gone, when all body and mind are telling you that this is somebody you will know for a great deal of time. He was something of a kindred spirit to myself.
It must be difficult. Much of it has to do with my respect for his daughter, whom he loved so dearly and whom he would talk about so often. For me, that is of incredible importance. I hope in a small way that The Dark Knight can be a celebration of his work. Not like the hideous circus after he died, which I felt was an invasion of a private life. This movie is not a personal home video. This is what he did. I hope people will embrace that in the correct fashion.
Ledger family will go to Batman premiere
The family of Heath Ledger will attend the July 14 premiere of The Dark Night, The Los Angeles Times reported. The film was Ledger's last before his death in January, and in it he plays The Joker. The New York premiere has been dedicated to the late actor, and the end of the movie includes a memoriam to him.
In Britain's Empire Magazine director Christopher Nolan called Ledger's portrayal of the villain "the absolute extreme of anarchy and chaos."
"We didn't want to show what made him do the things he's doing, because then he becomes less threatening. I like to say he cuts through the movie like [the shark in] 'Jaws,'" Nolan said. "He just kind of comes and goes and causes complete mayhem."
The Dark Night will be released in theaters July 18. In it, Christian Bale reprises his role as Batman, and Aaron Eckhart plays district attorney Harvey Dent.
Heath Ledger's possible love child

According to Heath Ledger's uncle, the late actor may have fathered a love child when he was 17-years-old.
Haydn Ledger told Australia's News Ltd newspapers it was a "real possibility," although the actor’s father, Kim Ledger, and mother, Sally Bell, refused to comment about the speculation.
The paper reported Ledger had broken up with an older woman before she realized she was pregnant. According to a family source, "She had the baby. Everyone lived under the assumption that she was the daughter of the mother’s boyfriend and that is how she has been brought up."
The Sydney Morning Herald contacted a woman who is believed to have had an affair with the actor. She requested privacy and said her 11-year-old daughter would be "incredibly hurt" if she were identified.
Although one Australian report said the child's stepfather suggested a DNA test to ameliorate press attention, the woman refused one when she was contacted by the Herald, calling the request "very, very rude."
This is not the first controversy concerning the late actor. His last official will was drawn up in April 2003, prior to the birth of his daughter, therefore nothing was left for her or her mother, Michelle Williams.
Actors Slated to Finish Heath Ledger's Final Film

Jude Law, Johhny Depp, and Colin Farrel will replace Heath Ledger in his unfinished final film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The fantasy flick is being directed by Terry Gillian and filming was halted after Ledger’s accidental death.
Heath’s original footage will be kept, and the three actors will play a reconstructed version of the character.
Colin Farrell is honored to be a part of the film and said "It's about getting Heath's work out there, get his work out there, he's too good for any of his work not to be seen, you know, and I'm really keen and looking forward to doing it and just doing the best job I can do."
Ledger is clearly a respected actor and it sounds like the film will be a tribute to the young stars unfortunately short-lived career.
Heath Ledger's Funeral

Hundreds of mourners attended a memorial service for Heath Ledger in his hometown of Perth, Australia on Saturday. Ledger's ex Michelle Williams, and their daughter Matilda, joined the 28-year-old actor's family and friends at Penrhos College.
Also in attendance was fellow Australian Cate Blanchett, who spoke about the time she spent with Ledger in Los Angeles. Ledger's parents and sister also spoke, as did Neil Armfield, the director of the deceased actor's last Australian film, 2006's "Candy." Ledger's family also prepared a video tribute of Ledger in films and with Matilda.
Kim Ledger, the late actor's father, said a private funeral in Perth would follow the memorial service. He did not disclose the location. "The funeral will be very, very private and there will only be 10 people there, immediate family and no one else," Kim Ledger told reporters earlier in the day.
"It's a pretty sad time. We're finding it difficult to cope by ourselves, let alone cope with everyone around the world," he added. "Having said that, we do really appreciate the outpouring and emotional support from all over the globe."
UPDATE: The intimate service, where Ledger's cremated remains were buried, was held at Fremantle Cemetary. "It was a very emotional service," a source told People. Aferwards, they all went to the Indiana Tea House on Cottesloe Beach, where Michelle Williams appeared visibly shaken and was crying.
There, Williams and 50 others, including attendees of the earlier wake, ran onto the beach behind the restaurant and plunged into the ocean. "It's exactly what Heath would have wanted," a mourner told People.
Heath Ledger's Autopsy Results

Health Ledger’s toxicology results have finally come back, and the NY Medical Examiner’s Office has claimed that Ledger’s death was an accident caused by combining too many doctor-prescribed medications.
Heath died of acute intoxication from ingesting oxycodone (OxyContin painkiller), diazepam (the anti-anxiety drug Valium), hydrocodone (Vicodin, a painkiller), alprazolam (Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug), temazepam, and doxylamine. (sleep aids). None of this medication was taken in excess, but even with low dosages, the combination proved lethal.
Heath’s mother Kim Ledger issued the following statement: “We remain humble as parents and a family, among millions of people worldwide who may have suffered the tragic loss of a child. Few can understand the hollow, wrenching, and enduring agony parents silently suffer when a child predeceases them. Today's results put an end to speculation, but our son's beautiful spirit and enduring memory will forever remain in our hearts.”
Michelle Williams speaks

Michelle Williams issued a statement today in her first public comments since Heath Ledger's death Jan. 22.
"Please respect our need to grieve privately," Williams wrote. "My heart is broken."
Williams, who had a two-year-old daughter, Matilda, with Ledger, also said: "I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day.
"His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him."
Meanwhile, production on Williams' film Blue Valentine has been halted indefinitely. It was set to begin filming February 25, but it has been put on hold until Williams is ready.
Also struggling with Ledger's sudden demise is Matilda's godfather, actor Jake Gyllenhaal. "Jake is taking this harder than most people," a friend said.
Faker calls in pretending to be Heath Ledger's Dad

This is just sick! A caller pretending to be the father of deceased actor Heath Ledger called into a FOX in New York City apparently looking for info about the actor's death. TMZ.com is reporting that the caller also tried to obtain the phone number of Heath's ex-girlfriend Naomi Watts. The caller claimed that Ledger's death was a "mistake" and made several other false statements. The caller also tried contacting Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Mel Gibson, and the funeral home where Heath's body was taken after the incident. One has to wonder, why someone would attempt to do such a thing after such a tragic loss of life, and what kind of information this imposter was trying to obtain. He was trying to milk the situation to his own advantage by having the funeral home book hotel rooms, recieving emotional support from Tom Cruise, and swindling plane tickets out of John Travolta according to the New York Post.
As an added note the real Kim Ledger, father of Heath, was in New York for the heart breaking task of gathering his son's belongings and viewing a memorial set up by other residents of the Soho apartment complex in which Heath was residing at his time of death. Kim Ledger is expected to return to Perth for his son's funeral later this week. Details of the funeral arrangements are being kept private, despite heavy media attention. The New York City medical examiners office is still waiting on toxicology reports to determine Heath's cause of death.
