After making her play a child’s fantasy woman in ‘Pankh’, the movie’s director wants Bipasha Basu to play a prostitute in his next film on sex workers of Kolkata. Director Sudipto Chattopadhyay’s controversial movie Pankh is yet to release and he has already begun working on his other project on the lives of prostitutes in the brothels of Sonagachi, Asia’s oldest and largest red-light area situated in the north of Kolkata. According to a source, the film is also titled ‘Sonagachi’. The news is that after working with Bipasha in ‘Pankh’, Sudipto is highly impressed by the actress, and offered her the lead role in ‘Sonagachi’. Bips is likely to play a prostitute who looks after a child, a victim of pedophilia.
She helps this kid lead a normal life. Sudipto is not ready to disclose the actress’s name, but when talking to a tabloid he did say that a big star will essay the protagonist. He confirmed that the movie is about the lives of sex workers in Sonagachi, their trials and tribulations. He has even shot for some scenes in the area during Durga Puja celebrations and has roped in real-life prostitutes to play themselves in the flick. Bipasha’s first film with Sudipto, ‘Pankh’, is about a 20-year-old boy, played by Maradona Rebello, who is confused about his sexual identity because as a child he was made to dress up as girl to act in films. Bipasha plays his fantasy woman.
