Not a mother myself I am always awed at the patience, the selflessness, the ability to go without sleep for days at a time, that I see in the mothers around me. It seems to be that a lot of time parenthood can be a thankless job and the older I get the more I am able to see my parents as people and recognize the sacrifices they made. In my mind motherhood has less to do with biology than a woman's fierce love and dedication to her children, to ensure that their needs are met before her own and that they become people who can stand independently. So I would just like to say to all the wonderful mothers out there, you have my admiration and respect, and to my own mother (and grandmothers) thank you, thank you, thank you--a million times thank you--for all the things big and small that you have done and continue to do without expecting a thing in return.
